After serving as solo oboist at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in Karajan's golden era from January 1980 through summer 2001, Hansjörg Schellenberger has played active roles as soloist, chamber musician and educator as well as conductor, making Europe and Asia his main stages. As soloist he has worked with top-rated conductors such as Karajan, Giulini, Abbado, Muti, and Levine; as chamber musician he has developed diverse activities mainly with Ensemble Wien-Berlin. Steadily establishing his profile as conductor in recent years, he had the Japan tour in Fall 2012 leading the Camerata Salzburg. He was also appointed the chief conductor of the Okayama Philharmonic Orchestra as of 2014 April and the chief guest conductor of the Orquestra Ciudad de Granada as of the 2012/13 season.
