After graduating from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Toshihiko Matsunuma studied conducting at the Tokyo College of Music and the Universitat fur Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien. He won first prize at the 10th Hungarian Television Conductor’s Competition in Budapest and third prize at the 1st International Gustav Mahler Conduction Competition. Matsunuma has conducted many major orchestras both in Japan and abroad.
