Accompanist

Junko OKA

After graduating from the Osaka College of Music, Piano Course, Junko Oka furthered her study at Conservatoire de Musique de Genève (Piano Accompaniment Discipline) and obtained a diploma there. While at school, she served as an accompanist/assistant to professor Bruno Schneider (horn). From 2006 to 2010, Oka was an accompanist/assistant to Maurice Bourgue (oboe), a professor at Conservatoire de Musique de Genève. She studied piano under Kazumi Okada, Katsuko Kawagishi, and Mayumi Kameda, and she studied accompaniment/chamber music under Jean-Jacques Balet.

Oka was an official accompanist at the 41st Concours International de Violon Tibor Varga, the 1st preliminary in 2007, the Xi’an International Oboe Festival in 2010, and the 10th International Oboe Competition of Japan presented by Sony Music Foundation in 2010. She has performed on various recordings, including the 3rd CD of Hiroaki Shiomi, a tuba player from the Osaka Symphony Orchestra, and a CD of Ritsuko Kano, an oboist from Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa. Her current activities focus on ensemble playing, e.g., performing in major orchestras in Kansai as an extra, accompanying in recitals, and working with chamber groups and renowned musicians from abroad.
